My Camera Equipment

Today we will dive into what camera equipment I use for filming and getting the shots I share with y’all.

I don’t have anything off the wall crazy cool, new, etc. I’m just using what I already have available that I own. I will eventually invest into better equipment, but for my budget I don’t think it’s all that bad.

  • Kodak DX6490 Camera
  • Cell Phone
  • Tripod, Generic
  • Bower Multipod
  • Battery pack

Kodak DX6490

Originally purchased while I was stationed in Iraq in 2004, this camera has been my first and only digital camera I’ve ever owned outside of the cameras now standard on every cell phone. Why don’t I upgrade you’re asking? I know there are better cameras available now, but this one still takes great pictures and videos. While it’s only a 4.0MP camera, unless I start putting my pictures on billboards, I don’t see where I honestly need more for sharing on the interwebs. And when I do, I have my cell phone to pick up the slack for the occasional high resolution picture or video.

One day I’ll get a better camera or just move solely to the phone. Till then, I’ll enjoy taking pictures with my ancient camera.

Cell Phone: Samsung A01

While I’m in the market to upgrade my phone, I’m currently using the Samsung A01. Let me tell you, this phone is absolute garbage. I’ve had nothing but issues since the last operating system update.

When I first got the A01, it was adequate at best.

The phone is advertised with 16G of memory, which it might have but 10G of that is the system software and BS apps you might never use or want. That leaves you with 6G of usable space to work with.

Generic Walmart Tripod

I bought this tripod from Walmart years ago. It has been my trusted tripod until it finally broke on my last camping trip. I think I paid about $20 for it at the time and certainly got my money’s worth out of it.

It was a great little, versitle tripod. Each leg extended and could be set individually to give you a level platform to start from. Collapsed all the way down, it could be a tabletop or desktop tripod, or you could extend the legs all the way giving you an approximately 4ft tall tripod.

It was a little weighty at just over a pound, but it was tough.if I could have found another one exactly like it, I might have bought it. Unfortunately I haven’t seen this one again in 5 years or better now.

Bower Multipod

The Bower Multipod is a new piece of equipment to replace the now retired collapsible tripod I have been using over the last decade.

I’m still unsure how long I will use it or if it will be a more permanent fixture in my photography and videography. It’ll all depending on how it performs over the next year or so.

Battery Pack

I bought a solar battery pack about 5 years ago and loved it. I could run everything I needed to on my phone and keep the phone charged all day with juice to spare. It was great, especially while camping or hiking. Leave it in the sun all day and it self charged without the need to plug it in. So after 5 years of usage, the battery pack finally stopped working and holding a full charge. It was time to replace it.

The replacement I choose to go with still had the solar cell on it, but came with a built-in flashlight and higher charge capacity.

Final Thoughts

For me, at this moment, despite some of the issues with cell phone, this combination of equipment works well. Hopefully, by the time you’re reading this, I will have gotten a new phone. Hopefully the new phone clears up the inherent problems with the A01 I’ve been having.

I absolutely love my dinosaur of a camera. It works without fail every time I need to use it. I will continue to use it as long as I can find batteries for it.

The new tripod is TBD. My next couple of trips will help me decide what I think about it. My old one was absolutely great.

The following links may not be to the EXACT gear pictured, however, will be to what I could find comparable to what I have and use.  Some are a generalized search so you can pick exactly what you want or give you an idea what might be found at that retail store if it applies.
